Freeing yourself was one thing, claiming ownership of that freed self was another.

Meet the founder!

Kali (she/they) is a non-binary Indian transdisciplinary artist, designer, tattoo artist, activist and entrepreneur. They received their Bachelor in Architecture (2019) degree from Syracuse University along with a minor in Environment and Society, and went on to work at an ad agency where they specialized in product design. Frustrated with the racist, fatmisic, euro-centric art direction of the beauty and fashion industry, they felt strongly about shutting (burning) it all down. Kali was also a founding member of the organization Riders4Rights, founded in the 2020 BLM movement.

Kali experiences clinical depression, ADHD, and anxiety and is an active advocate for the recognition and the education on sanism and the harm it causes to nuerodivergent folx. Experiencing fatmisia as a child and young adult, that impacted their social and mental health greatly, they are a fierce anti-fatmisia advocate. They feel most strongly about reframing the way skin health and beauty is approached today. They believe the internalized oppressions capitalism relies on, to sell products to consumers is a story of our past.

Kali understands how much mental, spiritual and physical health can affect and show up on skin. Instead of treating these effects with synthetic chemicals, they would like to urge us to understand that the skin is a living record of the internal, and instead focus on holistic wellness. Kali wanted to bring the ancient science of Ayurveda to the American beauty industry and transform the way self care and wellbeing are approached. This is how áine was born.

In its baby stages of business, áine skin has come together with a lot of bootstrapping. If you would like to support our activism and cause, but you're not looking for new skin care, we are collecting donations!
